What Are Related Lessons in Elephango?
Elephango lessons are designed to be engaging, self-paced, and flexible. Most lessons are written to stand alone so that students can explore a topic without first completing other lessons.
However, in some cases, Related Lessons are necessary to support deeper understanding.
What Are Related Lessons?
Related Lessons are a set of lessons that are meant to be completed in a specific order. Each lesson builds on the knowledge and skills from the previous one, helping students move from basic understanding to more complex thinking.
An example is a series of lessons analyzing a novel like To Kill a Mockingbird.
Completing these lessons in the intended order helps students achieve the following.
Build a strong foundation of knowledge.
Develop critical thinking skills.
Engage in deeper analysis and interpretation.
Moving Away From Related Lessons
Whenever possible, we are moving away from creating new Related Lessons. Independent, stand-alone lessons allow for more flexible exploration and self-paced learning.
Here’s how we handle topics that used to be organized as Related Lessons.
Stand-Alone Lessons
Topics that don’t require step-by-step learning — like lessons on the five themes of geography — should be rewritten so each one can be completed independently.
Additional Resources
Lessons that were previously a series of Related Lessons may be linked in the right-hand sidebar under Additional Resources. This allows students to explore further without requiring an order.
Badges
A badge can be created that groups together independent but thematically connected lessons, incentivizing students to complete them all.
Guidelines for Lessons That Must Stay Related
The following is required when a topic must remain a series of ordered Related Lessons.
List of Related Lessons
The right-hand sidebar under Related Lessons must list and link each lesson in order, including the current lesson.
H5P Widget
Each lesson must include the H5P explanation about Related Lessons in the right-hand sidebar, placed beneath all the lesson links.
